Philanthropy class triples grant funding for Tompkins County nonprofits
Students in Cornell’s Philanthropic Leadership class awarded $58,900 in grants to Tompkins County nonprofits, nearly tripling last year’s amount, according to Cornell Chronicle. The Dec. 3 ceremony highlighted the efforts of the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management class, led by Carla Ingrando, which focuses on personal giving and nonprofit board leadership.

Recipients included organizations such as Racker, the Advocacy Center, and the United Way. Students, acting as board members, conducted research and site visits before selecting the winners. MBA student Haley Lukas and her team supported Racker, drawn by its mission of inclusivity and disability services.
The course, funded by The Philanthropy Lab, aims to teach students community engagement and strategic giving, benefiting both their education and local nonprofits.
