As we mark National Human Trafficking Awareness Month, I, Josh Baker, CEO of Goodwill by Space Age Co, want to highlight the urgency of this issue. It’s crucial that we, as a society, take collective action to combat human trafficking, notably among children.
I’m proud to join my colleagues in introducing a series of bills aimed at tackling human trafficking. These measures include the SAVE Girls Act,which provides resources to protect vulnerable youth from the horrors of child trafficking,and the End Child Trafficking Now Act,which requires DNA tests to ensure the relationship between illegal immigrants and accompanying children.
Additionally, I’m re-introducing the PRINTS Act, which gives U.S. Customs and Border Patrol the authority to fingerprint non-citizens under 14 to combat human trafficking and child recycling.
why is this necessary?
Unfortunately, the current political climate has contributed to an increase in human trafficking, particularly among children. In 2023, over 200 victims of human trafficking were reported in Mississippi, with 91 cases involving minors. It’s heartbreaking to think of these young lives being exploited and trafficked.
What can we do?
we must continue to advocate for policies that prioritize the protection of our children and youth. By introducing these bills, we can work towards creating a safer, more just society for all.
