United Way of Mesa County to distribute FEMA funds to local non-profits

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) -Mesa and Montrose counties non-profits can begin applying for grants distributed by United Way of Mesa County.

The FEMA funds will be allocated toward local food and shelter programs that meet certain criteria such as having an accounting system in place, are local and have existing emergency food and shelter initiatives.

A board made up of several stockholders will approve or deny grant applications based on community needs.

“During those board meetings, they sit down and decide whether housing or food is the biggest issue within the community at that moment and then allocate funds accordingly,” said Keira Auld, Community Impact and outreach Manager of United Way of Mesa County.

United Way is accepting applications starting Wed. Dec. 18, with a deadline of Jan. 29.
