Odessa organization collects donations for two non-profits
ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) – It’s the time of year for giving.
One organization is helping to make sure everyone has an enjoyable holiday season.
Team 7 has filled a ring at Ruffhouse MMA for their second annual fundraiser.
“It’s still important just to help those in need,” said Tryann Stevenson, part of Team 7.
This fundraiser aims to supply Harmony Home and the Crisis Center of West Texas with year round needs.
“Day to day needs. That can be hygiene items, that can be anywhere from them needing covers, them needing extra clothes,” Loralinda Cruz, the Program Director for Harmony Home said.
“Anything that you need to start over,” said Nadine Marqu, the Business Manager for the Crisis Center of West Texas.
Harmony Home provides services for families with abused children and the Crisis Center of West Texas helps survivors of domestic violence.
Team 7 accepts both physical and monetary donations from the community.
This year they have collected $6,500 worth of items, a $500 increase from last year.
Those items include toys, hygiene products and clothing.
“Basically what we do is we allow our clients to come into what we call our holiday store and what it is, they basically shop for presents for themselves and their kids without paying for anything,” Marqu said.
Stevenson has volunteered at Harmony Home throughout his life and that experience is part of the reason for this fundraiser.
“That was a catalyst for it and it was a foundation. It might have been a small foundation but now it’s a big foundation and it’s growing and growing and growing so that’s what I’m excited about,” said Stevenson.
These donations help everyone in the community enjoy the holidays no matter the situation they are in.
“Our goal is to include everybody in the Christmas holiday,” Marqu said.
Team 7 hopes to continue doing this fundraiser year after year.
