Rockford IceHogs give back to local non-profits through Teddy Bear Toss

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – It’s a tradition which started many years ago in the AHL and the Rockford IceHogs were one of the teams to pick up on it:

The Teddy Bear Toss.

When the IceHogs scored their first goal thousands of stuffed animals flew onto the ice. These are then picked up and donated to local non-profits. The IceHogs have done this for more than a decade with the last two outings bringing in roughly 5,000 stuffed animals each.

“We’ve got people that collect them all year long and keep them in their basement and wait for this one event to bring them all out. It’s cool,” says IceHogs Marketing/Community Relations Manager Dave Costello. “As far as donating them of course it’s a lot of smiles, happy people. they’re thrilled we give them out.”
