Hattiesburg non-profit raising funds to help veterans with mental health challenges
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) – A newly-formed, non-profit organization is focusing on raising funds to help veterans, especially those dealing with mental health challenges.
A benefit golf tournament at the Hattiesburg Country Club Friday was hosted by the Good Vibes Only Charity Fund.
That organization will assist veterans and their families financially.
Friday’s tournament was held in honor of the late Jared Curry of Petal, a decorated Navy veteran who served two tours of duty in Afghanistan.
Curry died in 2019.
Many of the tournament’s participants were friends of Curry.
“Our focus, certainly for this particular tournament, fundraiser, is to raise money for veterans who are struggling with mental health issues, and our idea is to create a fund where people can reach out to us,” said Matthew Lawrence, one of the tournament’s directors. “If they are struggling in some way financially, or maybe they’re struggling to bridge the gap in healthcare services or something like that, we could be there for them to help out.”
The tournament raised more than $6,000.
