Youth Leadership Lauderdale learns more about community involvement and nonprofits
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) -On Wednesday, Youth Leadership Lauderdale held a meeting at Pine Lake Fellowship camp to teach them about getting involved in the community and learning about non-profits.
This meeting was held at Pine Lake Fellowship Camp, where students also learned communication skills, how to be respectful, and how to carry themselves in school and in the real world.
This is an organization through the EMBDC that teaches youth around the area how to develop and grow leadership characteristics by interacting with community leaders, working through the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, and also providing volunteer opportunities in the community.
Gray Davis, a member of Youth Leadership Lauderdale, talks about his takeaway from their meeting.
“Being a leader and helping people when they need it, and one of the big things today was communication and respect, mean you give the respect you get, and if you respect other people, they will respect you,” Davis says.
Laura Lee Burinskas also talks about what she learned from their meeting.
“In school, if you’re doing a group project or involved with people and/or student council, it’s good to communicate your ideas and feelings and just be involved with each other and prioritize stuff. You need to prioritize your school and your family and not just let all the distractions get to you but also prioritize. You know, taking time for yourself in school because it is stressful, and people can get caught up in that. Also, we get kids involved. It’s so good to meet new people and learn how to interact with people from different backgrounds,” Burinskas says.
