BC Hydro donates $45,000 to non-profit organizations

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — BC Hydro announced on Thursday that it will donate $45,000 to various Peace region non-profits.
According to the announcement, the money is being allocated from the utility’s “GO Fund,” founded in 2016 to support Peace region non-profits.
Six total beneficiaries were named for this latest donation, including the Hudson’s Hope Historical Society, which received $8,000 to help improve accessibility at the district’s museum for seniors and people with diverse abilities.
The Tansi Friendship Centre Society received $3,750 to support educational, social, and cultural teaching groups for new parents and young children.
Elsewhere, $10,000 will be donated to the Peace Valley Arts Society to purchase a new kiln and expand the community’s pottery program.
The Josh Lequiere Society will get $5,000 to support sports programs for underprivileged youths.
The North Peace branch of the BC SPCA will receive $10,000 to help provide pet food to low-income households.
Lastly, the Wellness Truth Family Counselling and Advocacy Foundation will get $7,500 to support women and families escaping domestic violence and other trauma.
“Our organization has officially survived its first year of being a registered charity here in Fort St. John, and we would not have been able to do the work we have done without the help of the BC Hydro GO Fund,” said Lisa Jewell, the foundation’s executive director.
To date, the fund has supported more than 100 projects as part of BC Hydro’s commitment to support the region as it builds the Site C dam.
Past beneficiaries include the Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society, the Child Development Centre Society of Fort St. John and District, and more.
