Nonprofits still in need of donations after Giving Tuesday
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – While Giving Tuesday is coming to an end, that doesn’t mean nonprofits are finished accepting donations.
Your contributions are a big reason many of these organizations are able to run and help the most needy in our community.
Though inflation is starting to settle down, prices are still higher than ever before. This is causing fewer people to have extra money in their pockets to give away.
For the last 3.5 years, Major Robert Lyle with The Salvation Army Central Alabama says giving has gone down simply because the cost of living has gone up.
He says nonprofits across the nation are dealing with the same.
Even still, the Salvation Army is continuing to serve the community and even more so in recent years because our neighbors still need help.
“Any given day, we feed over 500 people every day at the Salvation Army,” said Major Lyle. “We sleep over 150 people a night. So again, need knows no season. Just cause Christmas ends, doesn’t mean that the need is no longer there so this allows us to do things all year for the good of this community.”
The Salvation Army recently launched the Empty Stocking Fund which provides food, financial assistance, and crisis relief to those in need.
