Giving Tuesday donations surge as Northstate non-profits see record generosity from locals

Non-profit organizations across the Northstate are feeling the love this Giving Tuesday as donations pour in from generous locals.

The Community Foundation of the North State in Redding has been keeping a close eye on the donation numbers, which have been steadily climbing.

Over the past 11 years, the total amount donated on Giving Tuesday has grown from less than half a million dollars to an impressive $1.14 million last year. The goal is always to surpass the previous year’s total by at least a dollar.

Kerry Caranci, the chief executive officer of the Community Foundation, said there’s an exciting new feature this year: matching grants.

“People give to whatever speaks to them, whether it’s animals or the arts, or the environment It just really depends on what people are looking for. And the really great thing that we’ve seen, this year, is individuals, or organizations, are doing matching dollars for these organizations as well,” Caranci said. “So, there’s some great matching opportunities online for North State Giving Tuesday this year.”

For those who haven’t yet contributed, there’s still time to make a difference. Donations can be made until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday by visiting northstategives.org and selecting your favorite non-profit.
