Local nonprofits can now apply for city’s new grant program

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – Nonprofit organizations within the city of Jonesboro can now apply for grant money through the city’s Humanitarian Outreach Funds.

Director of Grants and Community Development Jeremy Biggs says that the city council approved $500,000 to be given to various nonprofits through grant applications.

“Well we’re very excited to for the opportunity to provide money to nonprofit organizations,” Biggs said. “The city council appropriated a half million dollars in funds to the Humanitarian Outreach Fund.”

For a nonprofit to qualify for a grant, it must be a 501 (c)(3) organization registered with the IRS, in good standing with the state, and within the city limits. Organizations can also apply in two different ways.

“They can apply for to increase the capacity of their organization, to expand the program’s direct services to clients or they can also apply for money for construction or rehabilitation of existing facilities,” Biggs said.

Executive Director for the Family Crisis Center Casey Kidd said that this will be a game-changer for local nonprofits.

“I’m very thankful for the opportunity to apply for funding through city for our agency. I think it really shows that the city supports the nonprofit organizations and the work that’s being done,” Kidd said. “It’s gonna either help a nonprofit to further the work that they are doing, maybe it’s going to help them add something in to further another service, it’s a wonderful opportunity.”

“The door is open for anybody, no matter how long they’ve been in existence or their expertise or capacity they might have with personnel there, we’ve made it as easy as possible for any nonprofit organization to apply for these funds,” Biggs said.
