Staff for the Urban Rural Development and Capacity Building Project (URDCBP) was over the moon when they received a new bakkie donated by Strategic Fuel Fund (SFF) organisation on Monday 11 November.
SFF is a non profit organisation that aims to secure the supply of strategic fuels by operating efficiently, collaborating with strategic partners in exploring new opportunities by leveraging agile and empowered people operating responsibly in a compliant manner.
The event was held at the URDCBP offices at the Langa Rent Office.
URDCBP is a non-profit organisation that works closely with the vulnerable and people with chronic illnesses.
URDCBP project director Pamela Nteyi described the event as a special day. She said it reminded her late mother Nompumelelo Ngoqo who was the founder of the project.
She expressed gratitude to SFF members for their support, citing that it meant a lot to them.
“We’ve been using the old bakkie for a long time. It (old bakkie) is 20-years-old. Sometimes it would get stuck on the road on the way to collect some items,” she laughed, adding that their dream had come true.
Nteyi said as an organisation they have been longing for a new bakkie.
“My mom died in 2020 and we are continuing with her legacy,” she stated.
She said they used to open the whole week, but because of the circumstances, they operate on Monday, Wednesday and Friday only.
However, she stated that they are nothing without their beneficiaries.

SFF stakeholder relations manager Dladlakazi Ntloko declared that the bakkie was fully owned by the URDCBP. However, they would monitor them.
“Our relationship with URDCBP started in 2022. We approached them because we were looking for organisations that we could work with. I saw their organisation on social media but the page was not updated. Fortunately, I saw someone I know commenting on their page then I contacted that person and asked her to find contacts for the organisation for me,” she explained, adding that since then, they never looked back.
Ward 51 councillor Lwazi Pakade also expressed gratitude to SFF. He said the bakkie is not only going to help the URDCBP but the community at large.
He said the community would try to ensure that the organisation operated optimally.
