Three Coachella Valley housing nonprofits awarded BofA grants

Have some free time? These Palm Springs area nonprofits need volunteers
Here’s our latest roundup of Coachella Valley nonprofits that are seeking volunteers (as of July 2024).
Three Coachella Valley housing nonprofits — Palms Springs-based Fair Housing Council of Riverside County, Habitat for Humanity Coachella Valley and Palm Desert-based Lift To Rise — recently received $65k in grants from Bank of America. This is the second round of grants that BofA has awarded to local nonprofits this year.
Fair Housing Council will use its Bank of America grant to offer a homebuyer counseling and education program to more than 400 people over the next year. Habitat for Humanity will use the grant towards its housing insecurity prevention program that builds new homes and makes property repairs and wrap-around services. The grant will also support the construction and preservation of 97 housing units over the next year. Lift to Rise, a collaboration of more than 70 regional partners, will use the grant towards its ongoing effort to build 1,000 new housing units.
“As the cost of living rises across the Coachella Valley, we want to help ensure that hard working people can still afford safe, quality housing that leads to personal, family and financial stability,” said Bansree Parikh, president, Bank of America Inland Empire. “The low desert has an incredible nonprofit sector, and we’re proud to support these three housing nonprofits that do so much for the region.”
The philanthropic strategy at Bank of America, according to its website, is guided by a common purpose to help make financial lives better. Part of this work is to develop strong partnerships with nonprofit organizations focused on issues fundamental to economic mobility in low- and moderate-income communities. Through its partnerships, the bank supports vulnerable populations, including working families, youth, seniors, individuals living with disabilities, veterans and those impacted by the criminal justice system — helping them to move forward in their goals.
