Community Foundation of South Okanagan Similkameen screening of UnCharitable documentary
The Community Foundation of the South Okanagan Similkameen is thrilled with the success of its recent “Vital Conversations: UnCharitable Screening and Discussion” series, which saw hundreds of participants in the region discussing challenges facing the not-for-profit sector.
The “UnCharitable” documentary, which is billed as an exploration into new ways of giving, was used as a catalyst for conversation.
“We were thrilled with the level of participation,” said Kim English, regional manager at the Community Foundation. “These conversations are already creating change, especially in how we view and support non-profits. By focusing on the importance of overhead, we’re encouraging a shift in how we can work together to build stronger, more sustainable communities.”
Conversations included how greater transparency about the true cost of non-profits running services will lead to more trust and better long-term sustainable action between funders, donors and non-profits.
“This event was a real eye-opener. It challenged me to rethink how we support non-profits, and it gave me hope that, with deeper trust and understanding, we can change to create lasting change that truly strengthens our nonprofits to do their work and to dream of solutions,” said one attendee, according to a press release.
The Community Foundation concluded its press release by stating it “is committed to continuing these vital conversations, with plans to further engage the community in creative, long-lasting solutions that will help shape a thriving and resilient future for all.”
