23rd Annual Leatherneck Run with HOT Marine Corp League
WOODWAY, Texas (KWTX) – The Heart of Texas Marine Corp League invited the community to run in their annual fundraiser at First Woodway Baptist Church to kick off the Toys for Tots donation drive.
Operations Chief for Marine Corp Reserve Unit, Zachary Herevia, says that the donations will go towards collecting toys for families in need during the holidays.
“Right now, we have 31 different non-profits that we’re helping out this year and we are looking to increase that to at least 40 this year,” Herevia said.
Visitors and different clubs participated this morning in a 1k, 5k and 10k race.
The Waco Striders Running Club has been helping run races since the first fundraiser was held.
Race Director Mitch Deskins placed first in his age group this morning and says the race is a great way to get involved in the community.
“We have veterans in our group number one…and of course it’s the Marine Corps, we support them in any way we can, the best that we can,” Deskins said.
David Haight with the HOT Marine Corp League thanks everyone who participated for their donations and efforts in the races.
“We want to thank the community we want to thank everyone who came out to help us, this is our one annual fundraiser for the marine Corp league,” Haight said.
