Running on the runway for a good cause
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) -Most days, the only thing running on the airport runways are planes. On Saturday, things looked a little different at the Grand Junction Regional Airport.
Adults, kids and our furry four-legged friends all took to the runway during the GJT Runway Run Series Run hosted by the Grand Junction Sports Commission.
“It’s a pretty unique opportunity for people. We had a great turn out. The weather is incredible,” said Ben Snyder, Executive Director of Grand Junction Sports Commission.
“There were airplanes that you got to run by [which] was really cool…and we had everyone cheering us which definitely helps when you’re running,” said Tennison Scott, a participant of the 5k.
The event featured a 5k, 2k, kids 1k and a dogs 2k.
“Registrants were able to choose a non-profit that their registration fee will benefit,” said Jenna Kretschman, Communications Coordinator for Roice-Hurst.
Along with Roice-Hurst, attendants supported Girls on the Run, United Way and Eureka! McConnell Science Museum.
“This was a collaborative idea between a couple of non-profits that kept growing and growing. We said ‘we’ve been doing some events with a couple of them, so why not do them all together?‘” said Snyder.
The Grand Junction Sports Commission said they hope the run becomes an annual occurrence.
