$2.8 million awarded to California non-profits for park art installations

Park California is teaming up with California State Parks and the California Art Council to award 31 local non-profits $2.8 million to create art installations in parks across the state.

According to the President and CEO of Parks California, Kindley Walsh Lawlor, the goal of the program is to connect artists, tribes, culture bearers and the community back to nature.

“We know that public art can have enormous value on people’s health and wellness, having the opportunity to be out in the outdoors to enjoy art in public we know increases a person’s sense of belonging and it increases their connection to a place,” said Walsh Lawlor.

A Bay Area organization called the Sarah Bush Dance Project will be holding a live performance at Mount Shasta City Park in April of 2025.

According to the organizer of the project, Molly Tsongas, the performance called Murmur Dance in the Parks Tour is a dance theater performance that explores the language of birds, human’s relationship with birds and the interconnection between all living beings.

The cast will perform dressed as threatened bird species while the audience can walk around the landscape.

A map of all of the performances that will be taking place across California can be found here.
