Agrimark recently hosted its 13th annual Golf Day fundraiser, bringing together dedicated suppliers and partners to support the work of the Gift of the Givers Foundation, which runs various outreach projects to support communities in need.
This year over R100 000 was raised, contributing to vital projects in underprivileged communities such as Louisvale near Upington, where Gift of the Givers is making a life-changing impact.
Since presenting the golf days, over R13 million was raised for various non-profit organisations across South Africa, and funds raised this year will support ongoing projects.
According to a representative of Gift of the Givers, Louisvale has a high youth unemployment rate. Substance abuse and teenage pregnancy rates are high, with young girls becoming pregnant to obtain the child welfare grant whilst their mothers are still receiving a grant for them.
Some are employed as seasonal farm workers, which means an income for only certain months of the year. This results in high levels of malnutrition and hunger.
The Gift of the Givers have been supporting the soup kitchen in Louisvale for the past three years in an attempt to alleviate hunger and restore dignity. Volunteers also started a vegetable garden to stretch food supplies.
