Florida Wild Mammal Association hosts fundraiser to help raise money amid financial issues

WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) – The Florida Wild Mammal Association is set to host a fundraising event this weekend to help raise money for the non-profit as they struggle to make ends meet.

Executive Director Jessica Beatty said the non-profit’s budget increased, making it hard to care for the animals and nurse them back to health so they can be released into the wild.

With a small staff and no federal or state funding, Beatty said she relies on donations. However, she’s seen a dwindle in funds in the midst of financial struggles and animals in desperate need of care.

“It’s a lot. Its been a lot,” Beatty said. “That’s the easiest way to summarize. We’ve ended up having to really budget ourselves down.”

Additionally, Beatty lost her dad earlier this year, who she said was the glue to keep things together.

The non-profit organization hopes to increase its funding after hosting its Feathers and Fur Ball fundraiser on Saturday at Sherlock Springs. All of the money will go towards animal care and other bills to keep the facility running.

For those interested in attending, it takes place Oct. 26 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Guests can wear a costume, enjoy a silent auction and meet some of the animals.
