VFW Post 1142 has become a hub for veteran organizations to send donated items to Western North Carolina counties following Hurricane Helene. These donations come from individuals, non-profits, businesses and churches, and continue to pour into the post located on Veterans Drive in North Wilkesboro. Volunteers using their own vehicles have been hauling these supplies to some of the harder-to-reach areas of the state. Above left, Mandy Johnson speaks with VFW Commander Tom Mitchell, who helped funnel the relief efforts to the post. Right.
