Senator Hickenlooper visits Pueblo Latino non-profit
PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) – Servicios de La Raza, a health care facility providing important services to a lot of people got a visit from U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper on Tuesday.
Senator Hickenlooper was there to see the Pueblo location’s day-to-day operations.
Servicios de La Raza provides wraparound services for people in Pueblo, but these are not just any kind of services. They provide bilingual services to help the Spanish speaking population in the Pueblo community.
Servicios de La Raza offers services like behavioral health care, employment services and re-entry services for those who’ve been to jail or prison but have been released. All of these services are offered in English and in Spanish.
On Tuesday, Senator Hickenlooper toured the facility to see where the $2 million funds he secured back in 2022 are going towards right now.
Also, the Director of Servicios de La Raza in Pueblo, Dr. Velia Rincon says this funding is going to assist them tremendously in helping Pueblo and its surrounding communities have access to vital services.
Dr. Rincon tells 11 News, “Having services located on site in Pueblo not only helps serve all of Pueblo clients in our community but our surrounding area because it’s a lot easier for them to get to Pueblo than to Denver for example if they need something in person.”
Senator Hickenlooper also tells 11 News seeing this organization in action will help him advocate for more funding in the future. Senator Hickenlooper also says, “I think the key is to recognize that many of these nonprofits do a better job than government can do, in terms of reaching out and getting people in the community to acknowledge they need help and to take that aid, and that assistance, to learn the skills to become part of the community.”
