East Baltimore non-profit aiding ex-offenders denied government support, founder baffled

BALTIMORE, MD (WBFF) — After 22-years, Marlo Hargrove says his non-profit, the FACE organization, has been awarded no grants or government dollars.

“We’ve reached out to MONSE and city hall and, as we reach out, they say, keep up the great work, and then you see the word ‘unfortunately’,” said Hargrove.

Hargrove’s non-profit provides assistance to ex-offenders and is currently transforming an East Baltimore building into transitional housing for returning inmates.

“We haven’t been fraudulent. We haven’t mismanaged any funding because we haven’t gotten any funding,” said Hargrove.

Hargrove has relied on private contributions and, most recently, assistance from Charm City Community Care, a for-profit organization which is aiding in the operation of the apartment building for ex-offenders.

However, Hargrove remains confused why some non-profits appear to be awarded an infusion of government dollars and others have not.

“We understand but we don’t understand. What are we doing right but what are we doing wrong. A program that’s been sustainable for 22-years and has not gotten any funding from state and government, it makes me wonder,” said Hargrove.
