2024 Jewel Ball in La Jolla nets $909,000 for nonprofits – San Diego Union-Tribune
October is always a big month for La Jolla women’s philanthropy group Las Patronas, second maybe to August, when its signature Jewel Ball takes place.
But this October is especially big.
At the group’s new-member luncheon Oct. 9, a whopping 13 members were inducted, and Las Patronas announced that this year’s Jewel Ball netted more than $900,000.
The 78th annual Jewel Ball, themed “Meet Me in Marrakesh,” was held at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club on Aug. 3. The Moroccan-style event raised $909,630 for San Diego nonprofits. Six major beneficiaries will receive $20,000 or more, and others will receive less than $20,000.
The new Las Patronas members are Michelle Brown, Megan Casey-Jones, Kristen Churchill, Celia Cravatt, Julia Figueiredo, Giulia Grindle, Amber Hunt, Rose Ham, Susan Hanson, Jennifer Landa, Meredith Pathria, Kate Spiro and Ingrid Westlake. Each will serve a six-year active membership.
The theme for next year’s Jewel Ball is “Back En Pointe: A Night at the Palais Garnier,” inspired by “the allure experienced in Parisian theaters” and named for a 19th-century Paris opera house.
“Back En Pointe” is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 2.
