11 DC faith-based, non-profit organizations to receive funding for security improvements
WASHINGTON (7News) — Eleven faith-based and non-profit organizations in D.C. will receive funds from a $1.48 million security and preparedness grant to protect residents from hate-based crimes and improve security infrastructure, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced Thursday.
The funds will be distributed through the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP).
“Our places of worship are an integral part of our community, and this funding helps us ensure the continued safety and protection of our neighbors while they worship,” said Mayor Bowser. “Hate has no place in Washington, D.C. and I’m grateful to the teams of people who work every day to uplift our D.C. values and keep our community safe.”

The NSGP supports security upgrades, planning, trainings and other security-related efforts for organizations at a higher risk for violent attacks or hate-based crimes.
The mayor’s office said six nonprofits applied for it and will receive $150,000.
Organizations can use the funding to buy security enhancements like cameras, locks, security lights, gates and hire security personnel.
The Deputy Mayor’s Office of Public Safety and Justice will release a notice of funding opportunity in Fiscal Year 2025 for a non-profit security grant to support religious institutions.
