SECU Foundation approves $760,000 in grant to 19 NC non-profits

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The State Employees Credit Union (SECU) Foundation Board of Directors approved $760,000 to benefit 19 state non-profits through Mission Development Grants.

Local grantees include the Restored Souls Foundation of New Hanover County and Families First Inc of Columbus County, with the funds focusing on technology education, support against domestic violence, housing and homelessness, child advocacy and youth services, healthcare services, and crisis intervention. Both of these grants are for $40,000.

“The MDG program has added a layer of depth to our funding strategy that is helping organizations with strategic planning efforts to hopefully achieve more than they thought possible,” said SECU Foundation Executive Director Jama Campbell. “The success of this program speaks to the critical need for this type of funding among non-profits, and we couldn’t be more pleased to be part of their journey and future success.”

MDG funding began in 2016 and has laid the groundwork for the Foundation to expand its criteria for two additional capacity-building programs, Rural Opportunity and Disaster Response grants.

These grants help to strengthen the infrastructure and sustainability of non-profits that provide vital services to their communities, particularly in underserved and rural areas.

Grantees also include statewide support for the NC Partnership for Children, NC Coalition of Land Trusts and HopeLine.
